Why this exists

What the betting apps know — and what the wellness apps don't.

The betting apps know exactly who you are.

They know what time you open them. They know how long you scroll before you place. They know the bet size that keeps you coming back without breaking you. They know the parlay that almost won — and how to surface another one twenty minutes later. There is a building somewhere full of people whose entire job is to make sure you keep playing.

Then you try to quit.

You open the App Store. You search for help. You find a wellness app with a soft purple gradient and a meditation about “mindful gaming.” You find a blocker that asks you for your password and then guilts you when you ask for it back. You find a 12-step companion built in 2014 that hasn’t been updated since 2019.

None of it was built to compete.

That is the thing nobody seems to be saying out loud — the apps causing the problem are made of code and behavioral science, and the apps trying to fix it are made of good intentions. That asymmetry is the whole story. It’s why people keep losing.

What we’re doing differently

We took the same playbook the betting apps use — streaks, big numbers, deterministic rewards, identity reinforcement, daily ritual — and pointed every one of those levers at recovery. Same energy. Opposite direction.

You get a giant number that grows every day you don’t play. You get a streak you can actually feel. You get a Kill Switch that handles the 15 minutes the urge actually lasts. You get an AI Coach that learns your highest-risk hours and shows up before you do.

You don’t get a meditation. You don’t get a lecture. You don’t get a “remember, gambling can have negative consequences” notification at 11pm on a Saturday.

The thing we will not do

We will never use the actual mechanics of gambling to power this. No spin wheels. No surprise unlocks. No variable rewards. Every single thing the app gives you, you earned, and you knew you were going to earn it before you started.

That distinction is the whole product. It’s what makes recovery here actually rewire something instead of just renting you a different kind of dopamine.

Where this is going

Gambling is the wedge. The category we’re building is bigger — consumer recovery, full stop. The same architecture works for social media, fantasy sports, anything else built to capture you. But you don’t get to claim a category by gesturing at it. You earn it by being undeniable in one. So that’s what we’re doing — gambling first, completely, until BETR OFF is what people mean when they say recovery.

If you’re reading this because you already know — welcome. The streak starts the day you decide it does. We’ll be here for the rest.
